Being a mom is amazing. The love, cuddles and kisses you get from those smaller versions of you is awesome but there’s the other stuff that can be challenging. This is a blog about fashion so I’ll focus on the “mom style” part of the “other stuff”.
I married into motherhood of a 4 year old so I didn’t necessarily prepare for what kind of mom style I would have. Still, there are three significant moments in my life that defined my mom style.
- Growing up knowing I was going to be a fly mom like my mom and granny.
- Going to my first school event of my 2nd grade step-daughter and realizing that I actually was a fly mom.
- Birthing a child and experiencing the challenges of just looking like I showered everyday.
That 3rd moment...I thought I had mommin together until I had a newborn that turned into a toddler. I LOVE my baby girl but I had to negotiate even putting on lotion after showering at one point. So I had to get smart with dressing like I cared about life and thus the mom outfit was born.
A mom outfit it exactly what it sounds like. A series of looks meant for mommin around town. The more mom outfits I have in rotation the better. I keep it classic most days with a v-neck tee, my favorite distressed denim and a cardigan. I’ll funky it up with a cute sneaker or a flat and a fun mom-friendly accessory like a scarf. This way I effortlessly look cute and all the work was done on the front end! Don’t be afraid of a uniform! Wearing the same few timeless pieces often is smart and chic! If it’s good enough for NeNe Leaks, it’s good enough for me.
